Back to work.
I was a bit nervous about attending the dinner. When I picked up the tickets last Friday, I was wondering why wouldn’t this opportunity flow to the likes of supervisors or managers to attend. Our company table reps were Mr. F, JMP, AB Siddik, all of whom are very management related, and a colleague of mine who was kind enough to count me in – he got two seats offer from Mr. F and immediately seated himself while handing me the other. Nevertheless, I just felt like it was an early opportunity to discover what would really happen during an oil & gas club event so I can decide early whether I should further involve myself or not.
I had the best preparation ever. But going to the event was stark madness. The roads were blocked. There were barricades around the area – sheer stupidity in action. We had to go around the buildings to get to the dinner entrance. Lucky for us, there were a few doors open to the occasion.
The food was slightly better than good. Warm was the reception from our table despite arriving a little bit late. We all had to bring partners, seating on the same table. I saw roughly 20 tables on two different floors connected by a castle-like spiral staircase split into two. When the dinner ended, with very few conversations exchanged (since the show was too loud, again, sheer stupidity in motion), people started to flock into the dance floor. In was getting late so we excused ourselves before the countdown crowd down below jam up the walkway. Traffic totally filled up the road on our way out of the city. There were cars stopping by the side of the roads to see the fireworks. Sheer stupidity in action again. It started to rain. In all of this pointless celebration (pointless since the mass assembly was not about remembering Him), God still loves His servants and poured rain onto earth.
Despite everything, my love for my fiancé refreshed… we were going through all kinds of hurdles and she stood by. I take it as a celebration that I am already half way through my contract. At 11:59:59PM, I have officially completed 50% of my obligatory duty to serve. From here on out, I’d only be paying more than I do owe the company. There’s 50% more and that will only continue to go less as days pass by.
That’s quite an accomplishment, I think. And I would like to thank Him of course, everyone, especially my parents, and my fiancé.
