  • Calls of Duty: 50% through

    Back to work.

I was a bit nervous about attending the dinner. When I picked up the tickets last Friday, I was wondering why wouldn’t this opportunity flow to the likes of supervisors or managers to attend. Our company table reps were Mr. F, JMP, AB Siddik, all of whom are very management related, and a colleague of mine who was kind enough to count me in – he got two seats offer from Mr. F and immediately seated himself while handing me the other. Nevertheless, I just felt like it was an early opportunity to discover what would really happen during an oil & gas club event so I can decide early whether I should further involve myself or not.

I had the best preparation ever. But going to the event was stark madness. The roads were blocked. There were barricades around the area – sheer stupidity in action. We had to go around the buildings to get to the dinner entrance. Lucky for us, there were a few doors open to the occasion.

The food was slightly better than good. Warm was the reception from our table despite arriving a little bit late. We all had to bring partners, seating on the same table. I saw roughly 20 tables on two different floors connected by a castle-like spiral staircase split into two. When the dinner ended, with very few conversations exchanged (since the show was too loud, again, sheer stupidity in motion), people started to flock into the dance floor. In was getting late so we excused ourselves before the countdown crowd down below jam up the walkway. Traffic totally filled up the road on our way out of the city. There were cars stopping by the side of the roads to see the fireworks. Sheer stupidity in action again. It started to rain. In all of this pointless celebration (pointless since the mass assembly was not about remembering Him), God still loves His servants and poured rain onto earth.

Despite everything, my love for my fiancé refreshed… we were going through all kinds of hurdles and she stood by. I take it as a celebration that I am already half way through my contract. At 11:59:59PM, I have officially completed 50% of my obligatory duty to serve. From here on out, I’d only be paying more than I do owe the company. There’s 50% more and that will only continue to go less as days pass by.

That’s quite an accomplishment, I think. And I would like to thank Him of course, everyone, especially my parents, and my fiancé.

  • Ayu’s wedding at Shah Alam

My fiancé and I were at Section 26 Shah Alam for one of her colleagues’ wedding ceremony. Obviously I didn’t know the direction, but the map was quite accurate and I had a co-driver sitting beside.

Then there was Joe (or Jasman Haris), an ex-classmate that I have not met for a very long time. He looked a little chubbier than before and as happy as usual. Hey, I’m not really any slimmer myself so I have the right to make that observation. LOL.

The wedding looked moderate to me. The groom arrived right after we did. He seemed like a perfect match to Ayu. Congrats, you two.

  • Shopping and Surveying Part Deux

Speaking of shopping and surveying, here was a valuable photo op:

    nenekmoyang.jpg

The very definition of an ancestor:
“a person, typically one more or remote than a grandparent, from whom one is descended”

Or “nenek moyang” as the nearest translation in Bahasa. In the picture, two neneks (grandmothers) and a moyang (grand grandmother) were presumably shopping.

I haven’t shopped in a very long time. And when I said shopping, I meant roaming around a few places within a close vicinity to look for the real stuff that you’re looking for, not galloping a whole bunch of things from one place. That’s… a… shopping, but it’s different. Do we have another name for it?

One whole day. Harisons, Jalan TAR, Sogo, Habib Jewels. With my fiancé.

Time passes by faster than usual. Hm.

  • Guiding the New Engineer

I offered to guide the new engineer but still being new and afraid of not providing the deliverables on time, he insisted on me doing this and that first. That sucks. At the end of the day, I have more “prodders” around than those who really want to do the work. That means, I have to teach him before the project even finishes. Or, I’d be spending time guiding him while he does the work and the project progresses slower. Hm… am I being given the authority to delegate here?

It doesn’t matter. I’m the one who knows. When I am no longer around, heck, people around are going to be tripping.

Stopped by Cheras for the Harisons voucher.

  • “Cave Lunch” at Cozy Corner

I had lunch with “Cave” guys at Cozy Corner. They invited but in a very crude way. I guess that’s the normal “Cave” way.

I also realized that those without the technical savviness are the ones who make more noise.

  • Acid Reflux and Nexium

I went to see the doctor again for a follow-up. Nexium this time. Is that a prescription for gastric or acid reflux disease/heartburn? Similar symptoms, but one is for stomach and the other one is for esophagus, my lady told me.

Hm… hopefully my digestion system will come back to normal soon. No more late dinner and early bedtime.
