    Dell Latitude battery status indicator

Sunday was rough. I had to be at the office again.

    ***

Dell laptop doesn’t look it would last very long. Just look at the battery status indicator.

No wonder their growth is negative comparing 3Q08 and 3Q09 (-8.4% worldwide, -13.4% US).

All other top 5 vendors have positive growth (HP, Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba for worldwide, Apple in place of Lenovo for US market).

Forgive the ignorance..but what is wrong with it?

        Aliya,

Look at the status indicator on bottom right – almost peeling off. It’s only been 2 months.

    Dell Latitude running Ubuntu

CB is helping me with the setup of Latitude – dual boot to both Windows XP and Ubuntu.

I have to admit. Some industrial software still depends on Windows to run.

Ubuntu … does it run smoother than XP? What are the limitations? Especially when connecting with other devices or peripherals.

Here a list of what Ubuntu can do

        1. Yes, it runs smoother than XP.
        2. NO limitations because it is open-source
        3. It provides a great PnP support ( Plug in any USB device, printer, scanner, broadband even Ipod without installing itunes.
        4. NO virus problems, no headache…
        5. NO need to install driver.
        6. complete office suite, compatible with .doc .xls .ppt (openoffice.org)

couldn’t have described it any better myself. perhaps what can be specified further is the PnP support – are those drivers available on the internet? or that’s built-in when we install Ubuntu?
