At work today, I was introduced to DeltaV version 11 with the biggest change yet – electronics marshaling. There is a charm module that handles all of the field devices plug and play from the junction box. Profound changes but nobody knows the reliability of this thing yet.
Plugs in a field device from the junction box into one of these charms and the I/O module at the top links it to and fro the main processor. Saves a lot of marshaling wiring. If this is so, field wiring does not wait for engineering to complete – the solution provided sends the charm cabinet offshore upfront for field termination work.
Oh, Emerson! We do their payroll, hehe, dats ol i noe :p
n!za: really? ramai betul la client convergys nih
nasib baik tak buat payroll ESSO.. ekeke!
n!za: bleh ke abg zidni check gaji org2 lain… tgk adil ke tak. heheh! blur out the names…
What was the system before the used electronics marshaling and charm modules? Let’s have a potted history of field termination techniques for us dumb chem engs (who was once a facilities engineer).
Wata: Good question. I’ll update the diagram later here, once I got a hold of the right one.
